Add monitored resource entries

You can add a monitored resource entry (MRE) to a cluster administrative domain. Monitored resource entries define critical resources so that changes made to these resources are kept consistent across a high-availability environment.

Using the command-line interface

To add a monitored resource to the administrative domain, complete the following steps:

1. Type ADDCADMRE into the command line and press F4 to open the Add Admin Domain MRE (ADDCADMRE) display.

2. Type the name of the monitored resource, and the resource type and press Enter.

3. Select which attributes to monitor, and press Enter to add the resource to the administrative domain.

4. The message Resource added to cluster administrative domain &1 is returned.

Add multiple resource entries at once

In some HA environments the number of resource entries required in the administrative domain continues to grow. Entering each individually or creating a process to automate individual entries is time-consuming. The Add Cluster Administrative Domain Monitored Resource Entries (ADDCADMRE) supports the addition of multiple resource entries with a single command using *ALL or wild cards in the Monitored resource field. This

support can be used with the following resource types:

This function reduces the time and effort it takes to add (or omit) large amounts of monitored resources into the cluster administrative domain.

Adding multiple MREs to the cluster administrative domain

This example demonstrates how to use the the multiple addition support to add a large amount of user profiles to the administrative domain with one command.

Large HA environments often have a large number of users and each user or automated account has a user profile. In this organization, a user needs to add all user profiles the start with U to the administrative domain.

Using the command-line interface

To add these user profiles to the administrative domain, complete the following steps:

1. Type ADDCADMRE into the command line and press F4 to open the Add Admin Domain MRE (ADDCADMRE) display.

2. Type in the cluster name and the name of the cluster administrative domain in the respective fields.

3. To select all the user profiles beginning with U, use a wild card and type U* in the Monitored resource filed, followed by *USRPRF in the Monitored resource type field.

4. Press Enter to go to the Confirm Add of Resources display. PowerHA shows the list of all user profiles that start with U that are not already in the administrative domain.

1. Press F16 to confirm and add the resources to the administrative domain.

1. The message Resources added to cluster administrative domain &1 is returned.

The user profiles beginning with U that were displayed on the confirmation panel are added to the cluster administrative domain along with any groups the profiles depend on.

Considerations

The list of resources generated by *ALL or a wild card that appears on the Confirm Add of Resources display will not contain resources that currently are in the administrative domain

Sometimes when adding multiple resources with *ALL or a wild card, specific resources or small groups of resources may need to be omitted. This can be done with two different methods:

• Using the Resources to omit fields in the ADDCADMRE command display a user can enter the name of a specific resource or the name of a library to omit from the add operation.

• On the Confirm Add of Resources display, performing option 4, Remove on one or more items in the list will omit them from the list of resources to add.

Two additional restrictions to consider when adding multiple monitored resource entries to the cluster administrative domain are:

1. Selecting resources with *ALL or with wild cards requires an interactive job.

2. All nodes in the administrative domain must be active when using *ALL or wild cards.
