BRMS will automatically generate the control groups and media policies you need to perform Lotus Server online backups whenever the STRMNTBRM or INZBRM OPTION(*DATA) commands are run. The following table lists the control groups and media policy that are automatically generated:

Dynamic backup link lists to help you manage your backup window

BRMS dynamic backup link lists for Lotus Servers can be used to exclude everything that has already been saved during Lotus Server online backups. The dynamic link lists can be used by adding the following entry names to control groups:

Entry name: If you enter either the special value or link list name in an entry of your control group, BRMS will dynamically generate a list of objects to include or exclude from your save as described in the table above.

If you encounter locks on objects while running the following lists, consider using Save-while-active, ending any subsystems or applications that are holding locks against the objects, or saving in a restricted state by ending all subsystems to include these objects in the backup.Note

NOTE: For *LINK control group entries, links can excluded from backup by adding them to the QLNKOMT link list.

Usage Notes

Note 1: The Lotus Server databases are IFS files that have extensions of *.box, *.nlo, *.ns? and *.nt?.

Note 3: The following files will be excluded when you run either the *LNKOMTONL (QLTSEXCL) or *LTSOMTONL (QLTSXCLONL) backup link lists from a control group. Names without a leading '/' will be excluded from the Lotus Server data directory and any of its subdirectories. In addition to excluding these files, there may be other considerations, see Technote: Save of Domino data locks required objects and causes second LOGASIO job to spawn.sub-directories.

 Note 4:  If you run *LNKOMTONL or *LTSOMTONL while the servers are active,you will want to specify the path to the notes.ini file for each server in order to omit them. If you are running Lotus Enterprise Integrator (LEI) version 5 and earlier, you will also want to omit /QIBM/USERDATA/LOTUS/LEI/LCCSMP. Starting at Version 6.01 of LEI, this file has moved to /tmp and the naming convention has changed (LEI server name + LCCSMP), i.e./tmp/LEIMED02LCCSMP.You will need to backup these files when the servers are down. If the transaction logs are in a directory that isn't under the Domino data directory, then you should also add the path to the transaction log directory to this omit list.

If you use WRKDOMSVR or other domino commands during a save of the backup link lists *LNKOMTONL, *LTSOMTONL or *LNKOMTLTS - the /tmp directory might be locked and interfere with the operation of the command. One symptom of this interference might be a blank screen on the WRKDOMSVR command. In this case, you will have to wait for the lock on the /tmp directory to be released before the command will work correctly. In order to avoid this situation, you may want to omit the /tmp directory by adding it to one of the user defined additional omit lists, QLNKOMTONL, QLTSOMTONL or QLNKOMTLTS.

Note 7:  When LNT0970 RC 11 because of timeouts followed by LNT0978 are posted, users may see that all objects looked to be saved when looking at the number of objects saved via WRKMEDiBRM WRKMEDIBRM when comparing the number of objects saved in the CPC370C message in the joblog. When performing the online backups of Domino data, there are two saves occurring under the covers with one being the actual full online save of the objects and the second being the save of the changes occurring to those objects during the saving of the group. This means that normally where the timer isn't exceeded that you'll see two object count saves in the joblog with one being the save of the actual object and what is reported through WRKMEDIBRM and the other being the save of the changes. Thus two entries for each group of objects.

Note 8:  When using BRMS to do online backups of Lotus Domino, additional IFS directories and files may be created . More details about these can be found here in the in IFS directories used when backing up Domino for i5/OS using BRMS. All directories are relative to the Domino data directory.
