With this release, PowerHA for IBM i adds additional flexibility with FlashCopy sessions by introducing multi-snapshot management.

Previously, PowerHA could manage a single snapshot within a FlashCopy session. This release provides enhanced flexibility with FlashCopy in IBM Power Virtual Server with the ability to manage multiple snapshots within a single FlashCopy session.

This support is made possible by using the following options on the Change Power Virtual Server Session (CHGPVSSSN) command: *SNAPSHOT, *MOUNT, *UNMOUNT and *DLTSNAP.

These options provide the same integrated automation including:

• Optionally automatically quiescing the production copy of the IASP

• Support for snapshots at either the source or target of either Global Replication Services (GRS) or Geographic Mirroring

• Ability to automatically vary on the target copy of the IASP

• Built-in automation for submitting a user-defined program to perform operations such as backups
